hi i have a question i hope you can help with ..............
i have an existing koi pond..5153 ltrs and i am hoping i can afford to dig it deeper this summer.. it is currently only 2 foot deep and i would like it 4 foot deep..
i have done the calculations and came to the sum of 9513 ltrs when i dig it out to 4 feet deep.
how ever i believe my current filter setup < cloverleaf proff cl1> pump fed will be insufficient for this size pond. the cl1 is sufficient for 5625 ltrs.
question is , as i have very limited finances, if i plumb in a pss1 cloverleaf stand alone filter in front of this c1 proff and convert the 1st 2 bays which atm are brushes to biological will this increase the efficiency enough to handle the bigger pond ?

meny thxz in advance of a response

I really don't think you pump would push through two filters... maybe if you put another pump to the other filter?

i could be wrong ofc as im obviously no expert but doesnt the pump only have to fill up the 1at bay to overflowing then the next fills and overflows and so one .. so in effect the hard work is just to fill to overflowing the 1st bay ?
the rest is turning around the entire volume of the pond in and adequate time which i hope the 6000 lh pump would just about do for a 9500 ltr pond ?

i re read my 1st post and think i can put it better.........possibly lol

would a 4 bay cloverleaf cl1 proff filter capable of filtering a 5625 ltr pond. currently equipped with 1st 2 bays as brushes 3rd bay jap mat 4th bay alpha grog and sponges be capable of filtering a 9513 ish ltr pond if i installed a cloverleaf pss1 particle separator as the 1st bay thereby making a five bay unit. 1st bay pps particle separator 2nd bay bio 3rd bay bio 4th bay jap mat 5th bay alpha grog + sponges.

fed by an oasis aqua max eco 6000 lh pump ( i also have a uv unit in the line)
and am thinking of using a portable bottom drain with the Oasis as it can be attached to a hose and suck entirely though that as opposed to its cage
would the pump turn around the pond volume okies
would the filter be capable of processing the correct volume of water, with adequate dwell time and filtration.

i realize i should ofc buy the correct size filter but haven't the bucks. however i could afford the above setup if you think it will work and i realize it is probably borderline at best !!!
ohhhhhhhh to be rich...........but then look at the fun i,d miss :rofl

i have a very small koi stock at present due to a complete wipe out last summer. 3 tiddlers 4" and a rather large for the pond blue orf 13" the sole survivor of the original guys.

You've got a good filter system there...but as you know...deep down...you won't stick with the few fish that you have presently..and of the course the present fish will be big fish in a couple of sesaons......
The CL4 is where you need to be....but as you say, funds are low at the moment...I think I'd live with the CL1 for this season...with the few fish in there it'll cope...it will also give you time to save a few squids, then when you're ready next year, get what you need, rather than add needless extra bays this year..Good luck with the digging.
